Overview
The SkyCaddie SG5 Golf GPS is a top notch competitor, but the Intelligreen Technology is not enough to carry it over the uPro. While, Intelligreen is a great feature the unit lacks in other places. The signal strength was an issue at times as this unit doesn’t offer as many channels as the competition. The main problem is the downloading of courses. You must maintain a membership to use the downloads as they are not available to save on your computer for future use.

uPro Golf GPS Review

This is one of the newest entries into the GPS market and it is loaded with features unseen in its competitors.
The uPro Golf GPS is on the leading edge of the GPS market and while it has the functionality that anyone would love it has a few disadvantages that a newer company would have.
Pros
  • Video flyover of holes (only available in Pro Mode which is not fully available to every course, but the company has promised according to their website that if the course meets their criteria they will map it for you when you buy this unit)
  • Smartview Technology
  • Anypoint Technology (allows you to mark distance to any point on the hole)
  • Color Screen
  • Shows distance to and to clear hazards
  • Can hold up to 50 courses (with MicroSD card)
  • Rechargeable Battery
  • Ability to calculate shot distance
  • No membership fee (basic mode is free, pro mode is at a cost per download)
  • Windows and Mac Compatible
  • 24 Channel GPS
Cons
  • Price ($399.99)
  • Front, Center and Back distances aren’t marked on main screen with detail
  • Software downloads aren’t free (according to the site)
  • Course library is lacking at the moment
  • Pro mode courses are few and far between
Overview
Although, the uPro Golf GPS unit isn’t cheap the basic mode courses are free to download. The company seems to be looking forward as they are adding voice recognition in 2009. The uPro offers so much versatility with the Pro mode courses by having a video flyover, Smartview and Anypoint Technology.
This is just one unit that currently stands heads and toes above the rest.

Top Golf Accessories To Keep Your Clubs Safe

Even the neatest and most interesting golf accessories on the market will be utterly useless to you if you don’t have the clubs needed to play the game. Clubs are also more expensive than any other golf accessories, especially if you have a high-end brand. Therefore you should do everything you can to make sure that your golf clubs will be safe. You can buy several different golf accessories that will do well in keeping your golf clubs safe. However, you must consider what possible harm could befall your clubs, and how exactly you can prevent it from happening. Here I will go over some of the most common forms that danger can take, and how you can be safe.

Naturally the first thing you should buy is a nice golf club bag to carry with you through the course. You shouldn’t just buy the first one you see, though. The walls of your golf club bag should be reinforced with metal or some other equally strong material. If harm should befall the bag (for example, if it fell out of the golf cart and got run over by the wheels), you want it to take the brunt of the force rather than the golf clubs. Having your golf clubs crushed by something while they are inside of the bag is a horrible way to get started golfing, so be sure to have them protected.

Some companies sell golf bags that are much more secure than you would think. Instead of just being a strong bag, they are very solid and impenetrable. There might be a hinged door at the top that will allow you to connect a combination lock or something similar to keep potential thieves from getting the clubs out of the bag. Add another lock to fasten the bag to your golf cart, and you have a very secure set of golf clubs. This could be an expensive solution, but it is definitely less expensive than having your nice golf clubs stolen by a bunch of punks looking to make a quick buck.

You should also make sure that your club bag is somehow marked with your name, in the event that you should lose it and it falls into the hands of an honest person who will return it to you. Include contact information such as a phone number so that the good Samaritan can get in touch with you and set up a way to return the clubs. It is unlikely that this scenario will ever happen (after all, how are you going to just misplace your expensive clubs?), but it is good to be prepared. At the very least it will give you some peace of mind when taking your expensive clubs out.

Golf clubs are a huge investment, and therefore it is a good idea to get the accessories that you need to be fully confident in the fact that your clubs are safe from danger or thievery. Check out some of the things that have been mentioned here, and perhaps you will find something that you’d really like to have. If not, you may find other products that are similar but different in execution. Just spend some time looking around and you will eventually be able to find something that will work.

Top Accessories For Golf Clubs

The life of a golf club is very difficult if you stop to think about it. They are mercilessly tossed around in the back of golf carts, toted around with little thought to their well-being, then brutally used to smack balls around for a couple of hours. After a few years of this, they are thrown to the side and discarded for the newer models with better swinging power and all of the new features. With this much mistreatment of golf clubs, it only seems fit that you at least accessorize them a bit and help them live better lives. And while you’re at it, your noble deeds might just make things a little bit better for you and your golf game. Read on to find out about some of the things you can buy in order to treat your golf clubs better and prolong their life spans among many other things.

If you don’t already have a proper golf club bag, you should be embarrassed. This is the main thing (besides skill and clubs) that makes or breaks a golfer. If you have all of your clubs in one organized location that is easy to access whenever you need to, you can be sure to always have the correct golf club on hand when you need it. A well organized bag can almost be more handy than a caddy, since you will be familiar with it and able to quickly access the clubs yourself. You can also find bags with other pockets that come in very handy for storing the rest of your golf accessories.

A proper cleaning kit will work wonders in prolonging the lives of your golf clubs. While you are out golfing, your clubs will get grass stains on them, they will get dirty from hitting the ground (you know it happens at least a few times per game), and probably get scuffed up from the occasional sand trap. If you have the proper cleaning supplies to get your golf club back as good as new whenever it gets dirtied. This could either be simply a rag and a cleansing solvent, or a miniature washing machine that is sold by some large golf accessory dealers.

If you aren’t feeling satisfied with the grips on your golf clubs, you can always replace them. Maybe they slipped out of your hands when you were swinging and knocked an elderly golfer into a lake, or maybe they just make your hands sore with prolonged use. Either way, it’s possible to strip your golf clubs of their previous grips, and replace them with entirely new ones. You can find the new ones in almost any golf club store or on the internet where you can order very specific items. Better grips can improve a lot about your game, including the power of the stroke that you make.

While golf clubs are an important purchase, items to elongate the lives of your golf clubs are equally important. You have made an investment by buying your golf clubs, and you want to do the best you can to make sure that your money does not go to waste. Whether this is something to make your playing experience better or something to protect your clubs from the elements, it will certainly be worth the money.

Golf Digest Hot List Wedge Review

The 2009 Golf Digest Hot List wedge category is very important to me because each and every year I am buying new wedges because I’m so worried about the grooves maintaining their sharpness.  The winners of the Golf Digest Hot List 2009 are the usual suspects.  The Cleveland CG 12 and CG 14 Wedge were both gold medal winners.  I am sure this is because of the Zip Grooves grooves that Cleveland Golf was able to develop.  I am an owner of 2 of the Cleveland CG14 wedges and they are nice.  A nice wedge that made the silver medal is the Bobby Jones Pelz Wedge.  My only complaint on this wedge is that is more expensive than wedges typically go for but its a wedge that will last longer than some of the softer forged wedges out there.  Adams is a first time wedge winner with a silver medal for the Adams Puglielli Wedge .  This wedge seems a bit heavier but has a nice low center of gravity that will pop any golf ball out of the rough.  The Nike Golf Victory Red Forged Wedge is something that you will probably see in Tigers bag once he gets back on the course so you know its well made.  The Callaway X Forged wedges are silver medal winners as well.  The best quality of the Callaway X Forged Wedge is that they offer it in numerous grooves and lofts.  More than anyone else has to offer.  The Ping Tour Wedge is a nice addition for the better player.  It has a great look at address but still doesn’t give the forging that I believe is necessary on wedges.  The last wedge to note is the TaylorMade Z TP wedge.  It comes in  a smoke finish that is nice but the wedge is too similar to their offerings in the last couple of years.
